Worried About Hair Loss? Information To Help You

If you are worried about hair loss, there are things you can do to prevent it from happening to you. Unfortunately, if your hair loss is due to genetics, it may happen eventually. Keep reading for tips on preventing hair loss and what treatments are available to restore your hair if you do lose it.

Prevent Hair Loss

One common cause of hair loss is high-stress levels. If you feel stressed much of the time, try to change things. You may need to go to bed earlier so you can get more sleep, make changes at work, if possible, fix relationships, etc. Learn deep breathing exercises or purchase a hot tub to sit in and relax. Exercising is not only important for your body but may also help prevent hair loss This is because exercising can lower your stress levels. If you continue to feel a lot of stress, consider getting outside help from a therapist.

Make sure your diet has healthy proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Zinc, vitamin D, and iron are important to keep your hair follicles healthy and strong. Talk to your doctor to determine if you should take a daily vitamin.

How you take care of your hair can prevent hair loss. When washing your hair the water should be warm and not too hot. When you towel dry your hair use the towel to squeeze the water out of your hair instead of rubbing the towel on your head. Comb your hair gently instead of forcefully getting tangles out. If you have long hair a wide-toothed comb is better than a brush to get tangles out.

Hair Loss Treatments

If you continue to lose hair it may be due to genetics. If so, there are treatments available to take care of this.

One treatment is hair transplant surgery. This is used if you are losing hair on the top of your head. You should see a cosmetic surgeon or a dermatologist to do this treatment. The doctor removes hair from an area of your head that has a lot of hair and transplants this hair to the bald areas. The doctor removes a small amount of hair at a time as this is painful. In some cases, they will remove small strips of the scalp to transplant the hair. The doctor will provide you with sedation medication. You may have bruising, bleeding, and swelling for a few days The doctor may put you on an antibiotic to help prevent infection.

Another treatment option is laser therapy. This therapy can be used no matter where you have hair loss. It does not work as well as a hair transplant, but it can bring back some of the hair you lost. One benefit of using laser therapy is it is not painful as the technician is using the laser over the bald areas

A dermatologist or hair loss clinic such as Drs. Berry, Tessler & Aronovitz can give you much more information on hair loss treatments.
